\u201cSchool education instead of genital mutilation \u2013 a future for girls in Kenya\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Together with the Umoja UASO Women Group in Samburu County, we launched our P+7 sponsorship program in 2017, which enables girls from poor families to attend school and provides them with school meals. In return, parents commit to refraining from early marriage and female genital mutilation. From the 2017 to 2025 cohorts, 172 children are under the protection of this special project.<\/p>\n

In October, placement tests are held to determine which secondary school the now 14- to 15-year-old girls can attend for grades 10-12.<\/p>\n

Vocational schools are considered, as are upper secondary schools that prepare students for higher education or university studies. All of these schools are located outside of Umoja and operate as boarding schools. <\/p>\n

We would like to give all sponsored children in the class the opportunity to attend one of these schools. In Kenya, it is not possible to find a good job without completing 12th grade. <\/p>\n

If the girls now have to leave school, there is still a risk that their families will see no alternative to genital mutilation and marriage for girls \u2013 poverty remains widespread in Samburu County. <\/p>\n

With a continuing scholarship program until the end of 12th grade, we want to give girls the opportunity to complete their school education. This not only provides them with further protection, but also education and the chance to lead a self-determined life in which they can earn their own living.<\/p>\n

The costs for accommodation, transportation, personal equipment (mattress and bedding, hygiene supplies), school equipment (school clothing, textbooks, and learning materials), and school fees cannot be covered by the girls and their families. Approximately \u20ac725 per child is needed for personal equipment, as well as a budget of approximately \u20ac1,800 for each school year. <\/p>\n

We would like to cover these costs together. Anyone who would like to support us can do so by signing the following agreement. Donations can be made for personal equipment and\/or boarding school maintenance.<\/p>\n

Every donation gives the girls in Samburu more than just an education\u2014it opens the door to a healthy and self-determined future: <\/p>\n

\u2013 It protects girls from early marriage, genital mutilation, and abuse.
\n\u2013 it gives them knowledge, self-confidence, and the key to a self-determined life.<\/p>\n
